I always knew I wanted to write books - but I mostly kept it to myself. That way no one could tell me I couldn’t and somehow make it true. Years later it looks like my plan paid off. Nevertell is out with Walker Books in November 2019 and I’m working on another. Woo!

While I plotted and planned about being an author, I did other things. From working at children’s publisher Barefoot Books in Bath, to being a copywriter, to working and teaching in a stained glass shop and, later, leaving to look after my young family. I was born in London and now live in Bristol.

I’ve always loved fairy tales - especially the dark or creepy ones (and there are plenty of those).

My inspiration for writing comes from all over the place. From news articles to history programmes, books to music. It may not surprise you to learn that I’ve always loved folklore and fairy tales - especially those with a dark edge.

I had a ton of help along the way to getting my book published. From a few trusted friends who read my writing and gave me feedback, to organisations like The Literary Consultancy and their Free Reads Scheme. I signed with my agent Bryony Woods after taking part in the great WoMentoring Project.
