A drawing activity

This US book jacket by Rovina Cai is very different to the one created for the UK by Sandra Dieckmann, and yet both capture something exciting and unique, and I think both are perfect. Everyone has their own unique and brilliant style, so if you were the illustrator tasked with producing a cover for Nevertell, what would you draw? Would you choose an exciting moment from the book, or would you focus more on the characters? Or a particular place or theme that you think is important? How would you give people an idea of what the book’s about, and how might you put it all together with the title? If you’d prefer to you could pick any other book and imagine how you’d redesign the cover. I’d love to see yours when it’s done!

A writing activity

In Nevertell, the sorceress who’s after Lina and Bogdan has a very special way of getting around: a magic cape. If you had a magic cape, where would you go? And what would you see or do? You could go to a real place or somewhere totally made up. Or even to another planet if you fancied some space travel! You might want to visit friends or family, see and experience a different country, or set out on a fantastical quest. Is everything great in the place you’ve visited, or might there be trouble lurking that you didn’t expect? Why not spend a few moments jotting down your ideas. You could even write it like a story if you felt inspired.
